Speech and Language Therapy in Funchal

A Speech and Language Therapist is responsible for the prevention, assessment, treatment and scientific study of human communication disorders. This includes all functions involved in understanding and expressing spoken and written language, as well as other forms of non-verbal communication.
Speech and Language Therapists also work with swallowing — the safe passage of food and drink through the oropharynx to ensure adequate nutrition. They assess and work with individuals of all ages, from newborns to older adults, with the overall aim of optimising their communication and/or swallowing abilities and thereby improving their quality of life (ASHA, 2007).
