BBL in Funchal

BBL, or BroadBand Light, uses pulsed light to treat the appearance of sun spots, redness and minor vascular changes. The light is selected and adjusted according to your skin and the concern being treated.
At Fisioclinic in Funchal, it forms part of FisioSkin's services. Before treatment, the cause of the pigmentation or redness, your skin tone and recent sun exposure must be assessed.
Pulsed light tailored to your skin
BBL emits pulses of light at different wavelengths, filtered according to the treatment goal. The energy can act on the pigment in dark spots or on haemoglobin in blood vessels.
During treatment, your eyes are protected and you may feel warmth or small pulses on your skin. The settings are selected after an assessment.
Preparation and recovery
- Tell the team about any recent tan, medication and skincare products you use.
- Afterwards, warmth, redness and temporary darkening of treated spots may occur.
- Protect your skin from the sun and follow the cleansing and moisturising advice provided.
- Avoid rubbing or removing peeling skin; resume exfoliating products only when advised.
Frequently asked questions
Is BBL a laser?
No. BBL uses intense pulsed light, with a range of wavelengths filtered according to the treatment goal. MOXI and HALO use laser technology.
Is it suitable for every type of pigmentation?
No. The choice depends on the cause of the pigmentation and your skin's characteristics. A pigmented area should be assessed before deciding whether pulsed light is suitable.
Can I have BBL if my skin is tanned?
A recent tan may mean treatment needs to be postponed. Tell the team about sun exposure and self-tanner so they can determine the right timing and the care needed.
Is it normal for dark spots to become darker?
This can happen temporarily in treated areas. Do not try to remove them or speed up peeling. Contact the team if blisters, wounds or a reaction that concerns you develop.
How many sessions will I need?
The plan depends on the concern being treated, the size of the area and your skin's response. The need for further sessions is reassessed throughout treatment.
